自己紹介(About Me)

日本の地方都市からアメリカのミシガンに渡ってはや2x年。いつか他のどこかに引っ越すだろうと思いながら、もう2x年も居座っている。

I moved to the U.S. in 1985 with my family.  I am a local city in southern Japan.  I thought we would live in Michigan just for a few years, but we are still here.

あまりにも長く住んだためミシガンに飽き、隣の芝生が青く見える、じゃなかった、ミシガンじゃない所ばかりに目を向ける時代がしばらく続いたが、最近、ひょっとしてもう一生ミシガンかも、という状況になってきた。すると、もういちどミシガン、特に、昔一度住んだミシガン湖畔地方に目を向け直してみようか、とう気持ちが湧いてきた。

I got very tired of living in Michigan. I did not pay any attention to anything about Michigan for a while.  Then recently I began to realize that I may live here with my husband forever. Then I started wanting exploring Michigan again, particularly western Michigan where we once lived.

中西部の中で、五大湖地方は恵まれている方だと思う。湖あり、森あり、丘陵あり。冬が長過ぎ、厳し過ぎるが。そして、やっぱり、ちょっと退屈ではあるが。。。

The Great Lakes region is, I think, the best part of the Midwest.  We are blessed with tje beautiful lakes, woods, and hills, although winter is too long and too severe.  And it’s not a very exciting and interesting area to live…

せっかく2x年も住んだのだから、総集編みたいのを作ってみたいというのもある。2x年間の蓄積をブログという形で後世に残せれば幸せ（笑）。

I also wanted to make a summary of the knowledge I accumulated over my years of living in Michigan and pass it down to the younger generations of new immigrants (I sound like a very old perosn. Haha).  When I came to Michigan in mid-80s, there were very few Japanese (and very few other Asians).  A decade later, many Japanese, who are 10-20 years younger than me, started pouring in the U.S. thanks to the favorable exchange rate.

昼間は会社ですさまじき宮仕え。夜と週末にブログを書くことで癒されてます（笑）。本名は、リタイアするまでは明かせません。「ブログにうつつを抜かして仕事に身が入ってない」と、昇給無しの言い訳にされては大変だから（笑）。

I am chained to a corporate desk, because I can’t make living by blogging (lo). I will reveal my name when I retire (when…?)  If I revealed my name and face now, my boss might use it as an excuse not to give me a pay raise – he might say, “Your performance is not satisfactory, because you are too distracted to your blog.”  I can’t let it happen!

ペンネーム「つくしギャル」の由来：　故郷は「筑紫（ちくし）の国」なのだが、筑紫は「つくし」と呼ばれることもある。「ちくしギャル」だと、「ちくしょx」を連想しそうなので、「つくし」の方がいい。「ギャル」は、どんな年齢のおばさんにでも使える呼称なので飛びついた。

 

日系月刊無料新聞「ジャパンニュース倶楽部」の2012年８月号と11月号、2013年の３月号に記事を書かせていただきました。「新聞寄稿記事」ページ（この「自己紹介」ページの隣）に載せてます。今年はちょっと無理。将来、またに書かせてもらえれば、と思ってます。

I wrote articles about the wine trail in western Michigan, cranberry harvest in western Michigan, and crossing Lake Michigan by ferry for the Aug 12, Nov 12, and Mar 13 issues of the monthly newspaper for the Japanese community, the Japan News Club.
