ブルーベリー栽培農家は、早春にブルーベリー畑を焼くらしい！ これは、私が愛読しているCharley McKelvyさんのブログから。 彼は南西ミシガンに在住（私が以前住んだことのあるSt. Josephのすぐ近く）、ミシガン湖畔周辺のいろんな写真や記事を、いつも楽しませてもらっている。
Blueberry farms burn their blueberry plants early spring! I reblogged Mr. Charley McKelvy’s post. Charley lives in southwestern Michigan (very close to St. Joseph where I once lived). I always enjoy his photos and articles about Lake Michigan and southwestern Michigan.
ブルーベリー農家が、ブルーベリーの枝を刈り取った後、地面に落ちた枝を焼いている写真を昨日投稿していただいたのを、誠に面白く思ったので、拙ブログに引用(reblog) させてもらいました。
Charley saw the blueberry bush burning the other day and blogged about it. I found it fascinating that blueberry farms burn the branches trimmed off. That must be very good for the plants and also for the soil of the blueberry patches. Wikipedia says “blueberry production often increases following a forest fire, as the plants regenerate rapidly and benefit from removal of competing vegetation”.
焼畑の後は、作物の収穫が良くなるというが、それと同じことをしているのでしょうね。実際、ウイキペデイアを見たら、「野生ブルーベリーは、森林火事の後に実の付け方が良くなることがよくあり。。。」とある。
これからブルーベリーの成長のシーズン。７〜８月の収穫が楽しみです(^^) Blueberry starts regrowing in April. I can’t wait for blueberry harvest in July – August. Neither can you?

You like the words, 愛読 and 栽培, eh? That’s interesting to me. Reblogging is a hard to word to translate. The e-dictionaries say “他の記事を引用する形でエントリーを投稿する”, but that’s too long. I guess just “引用” should be OK – that’s my feeling as a native Japanese speaker.
赤い枝がきれいですね。珍しいです。 アメリカでも焼畑があるなんて意外でした。 阿蘇も春は野焼きのシーズンですよ。野焼きの後に緑の草原になります。
そういえば、赤いのは、昨年の紅葉がそのまま残っているのかな？それにしては鮮やかな赤ですよね。何なんだろう？ 気になり始めました。チャーリーさんに聞いてみましょう。阿蘇高原の野焼き！いいですねえ。農家の人たちは真剣なんでしょうけど、はたから見ていると、のどかでいいでしょうね。阿蘇、もう一度また行きたい！
