ここのところ数ヶ月ほど、仕事に追われて毎晩、毎週末、残業残業で、ブログをすっかりご無沙汰しておりました。ブログで食べては行けないので、しょうがない（涙）。早くリタイアできてもっと書く時間ができたらいいなあ。。。

Hope you are doing well.  I have been swamped with work for the past few months, working overtime on weeknights and weekends… Since I can’t make living by blogging I have to give priority to my job (lo). When will I be able to retire and have more time to write…?

さて、朗報が届きました。サンダンス映画祭 (Sundance Film Festival) が、また、アナーバーのMichigan Theaterにやってくるそうです。

Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor is again chosen for a venue for the Sundance Film Festival!  This is the 5th year in a row.  How awesome.

正確には、Michigan Theaterが、2014年１月のサンダンス映画祭の公式上映会場のひとつに、また選ばれた、ということです。

もう、これで５年連続！

今度の上映作品のタイトルは、Infinitely Polar Bear

アカデミー賞候補の俳優が主演で、エミー賞候補が脚本を書いた、とかで何やらすごそう。（私は最近アメリカの映画から遠ざかっているので（アメリカに住んでいるのに笑）、最近の米国俳優・女優は、誰が誰だか全く分からない。。。）

The starring actor is an Academy award-nominee, the script was written by an Emmy award-nominee, etc.  I have no idea who is who (I have not been watching American movies and TV dramas for a  lone while, even though I have been living in the U.S. for years  – haha)

字幕がついたらなあ、と願ってしまうのは、あなたもそう？　（または、歌舞伎みたいにイヤホンで日本語が聴けるとか）　ここはアメリカだから、字幕がつかないのは当たり前だが、ああも早い英語でしゃべりまくられると、もうついて行けない。分からないのは、言葉だけが理由ではなくて、流行や文化的な面で知らないことも理由であることも、大きいよなあ。

I always wish there were Japanese subtitles in the movie shown in the movie theaters, but this is America. Of course there will be no foreign language subtitles!  But sometimes I wonder – can’t there be audio equipment rental for non-American audience like me?  In Japan, in the Kabuki theaters they rent audio gadgets with earphones for foreigners which explain the story and what the Kabuki actors are saying on the stage.  It’s just not the language that foreigners like me can’t often understand what American actors are saying in the movies. Yes, they talk so fast and sometimes they don’t pronounce clearly, but there are also the cultural aspects. I did not move to the U.S. until I was 26, so there are a lot of things I never picked up. You’ll be amazed if you know how much cultural stuff you picked up while you were growing up.

この逆境に負けず、ヒアリングにいいと思う貴方、映画が好きでたまらない貴方、優美なミシガンシエターの雰囲気を味わいたい貴方、人が集まる場所に行って、しばし冬の孤独を忘れたい貴方。いかがですか？

In spite of the language adversity, if you think movie-watching is good for improving your English oral comprehension, if you just love movies, if you like visiting the elegant Michigan Theater, or if you want to be with a lot of other people to forget the loneliness of wintertime for a few hours, try going to this film festival.

例年通り、出演俳優や監督が、会場に現れてくれるそうです。

観客との活発な質疑応答が、また行われることでしょう（アメリカ人は、ほんとに物怖じせず手を挙げてよく質問する）。その様子は、２年前に私が行った時の投稿「サンダンス映画祭2012 (Sundande Film Festival 2012)」をどうぞ。

The actors, the actresses, and the film director will again be in the venue. I am sure there will be lively open discussion with the audience.  American people are certainly not shy – they always raise their hands and ask questions with no hesitation. I am always amazed (can’t imagine it in Japan).
