デトロイト美術館の美術品が、デトロイト市の財政再建のためにクリステイとかのオークションの競売で売り飛ばされずに済んで、本当によかった。時が経つにつれ、ますます痛感している。

I am so glad the DIA’s arts were not auctioned at somewhere like Christie;s in New York to save the financially-troubled city of Detroit.

去年、サムライ美術展があるというので、実に実に久しぶりにデトロイト美術館に行った。サムライ美術展はもちろん素晴らしかったが、DIAっていい美術館だなあ！と改めて思った。

デトロイト市財政再建のために美術品が売り飛ばされることもありうるのだと思うと、美術館はもっとがんばる気合いが入ったのかな？　最近、おもしろい企画が増えたような印象。

Last year I went to the Japanese Samurai art exhibition with my friends. It was very impressive. Is it just my imagination that DIA is hosting one great exhibition and event after another these days – maybe they realized that their arts are not immune to being sold so they are motivated to work harder?

建築の美しいこと。

To me, what was as interesting as the Samurai art exhibition was the two girls at one of the entrances (below).

私にとって、サムライ美術展と同じくらい面白かったのが、美術館の出入口で写真のポーズをとっていたバレリーナの女学生（たぶん学生）。

右下に小さく写っている２人の若い女性にご注目。右側の子は、バレエのレオタードとバレエシューズで、ポーズを取っている。左側の子がその写真撮影中。アート系学校の卒業記念写真でも撮っていたのかな。

人前で堂々とこういうことするの、いかにもアメリカ。日本じゃあ、ちょっと想像できないね！（ほめているのです。いいなあ、こういうの）

One girl in ballet leotards and ballet shoes is posing for the other girl’s camera. Were they doing it for a school graduation photo album or something like that?  I could not imagine anybody (especially young women) do a thing like that in public in my home country, Japan. I thought this is really cool.
